Every July the coastal areas of Florida are flooded with lobster hunters trying to get their share of this year’s bounty when the official mini lobster season kicks off. The mini lobster season is always the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July. This year the mini season falls on July 24th and 25th. It begins at 12:01 am on Wednesday and ends at 12:00 midnight on Thursday. The regular 8 month lobster season is always August 6 through March 31. Make sure to always verify dates and regulations with Florida Fish and Wildlife.
What is Lobster Mini Season?
Lobster Mini Season is a unique, 2-day event that allows recreational lobster enthusiasts to participate in the annual lobster harvest. Unlike regular lobster season, which is restricted to licensed commercial fishermen, Lobster Mini Season opens the waters to anyone with a recreational license. This rare opportunity allows amateur anglers to join the ranks of professional lobster hunters and take home their own catch.

Important Information
Before you head out to fish for spiny lobsters, make sure to:
- Check the current regulations and guidelines from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) regarding lobster fishing.
- Obtain a recreational lobster permit.
- Lobster carapace must be greater than 3 inches. Size matters. Use your gauge and know how to measure every lobster prior to keeping.
- Bag limit is 6 per person per day. Six means six.
- Display a dive flag. Always. Keep a safe distance from other boats.
- Follow all safety precautions and local fishing regulations.
- Respect marine life and habitats to ensure sustainable fishing practices. Touching or anchoring on coral is prohibited-be aware!
